The OCB350 fluid and air sensor from TT electronics Optek Technology is suitable for medical applications, including monitoring fluid or air in transfusion pump tubing. The device consists of an infrared LED and photo-transistor packaged in an opaque plastic housing to enhance ambient light rejection, and it operates over a temperature range from –40 to 85 °C. Capable of detecting varying optical densities, it features automatic calibration circuitry and is available with multiple output states, including “fluid present,” “no fluid present” and “no tube present.”
