CENTER VALLEY, Pa., Sept. 22, 2013 — The FluoView FVMPE-RS multiphoton microscope system from Olympus enables ultrafast scanning and stimulation for applications in electrophysiology; optogenetics; high-speed calcium and in vivo imaging; peristalsis and blood flow studies; mosaic imaging; connectomics and functional brain imaging; and stem-cell research.
The system captures 438 fps at 512 × 32 and 30 fps at 512 × 512 without reducing the field of view. Its scanner unit combines a resonant scanner, which offers a nonlinear sampling method for distortion-free imaging, with a galvanometer scanner. An optional third galvanometer scanner is also available for simultaneous imaging with 3-D stimulation or uncaging in a given optical section.
The device provides multicolor, multiphoton excitation and imaging with a choice of lasers, along with a four-axis autoalignment capability for colocalization and coalignment without pixel shift. Its multiple-laser-line capability allows simultaneous imaging with two colors at optimal wavelength excitation while stimulating the sample with visible light, or imaging with one IR laser while simultaneously stimulating with IR and/or visible light.
The system’s multipoint mapping capability allows ultrahigh-speed stimulation and measurement of rapid fluctuations in groups of cells for functional imaging studies, 3-D intensity measurements or mapping with high signal-to-noise performance. Offering throughput from 400 to 1600 nm, the device is suited for applications that require precise colocalization, uncaging, simultaneous imaging/stimulation, real-time signal processing or multipoint mapping. Custom-built optical deliveries are also available.
