Olympus Life and Material Science Europa GmbH has released the Exfo X-Cite 120 PC automated light source for use with fluorescence microscopy. The adjustment-free 120-W metal-halide illuminator has a 1500-h lifetime and is controllable via Olympus cell* imaging software. It features an automated shutter and light intensity modulation. Also being offered are the Olympus MT light sources, which can switch quickly between excitation wavelengths. The elimination of off-acquisition photobleaching of specimens is made possible through a shutter speed of 1 ms. The systems include Xe or Xe/Hg mixed-gas burners with advanced electronic control, resulting in a highly stable light source with minimal flickering.
