Imaging Diagnostics Ltd. has integrated New Scale Technologies Inc.’s M3-F focus module into its Camelot USB 2.0 smart cameras to deliver higher performance in the same compact format as fixed-focus models. The module is an integrated micromechatronics compact lens motion system incorporating a piezoelectric Squiggle micromotor, a position sensor, a drive integrated circuit and a microprocessor integrated into a 20 x 22 x 16-mm housing, about the size of a fixed lens holder and operating on a 3.3-V battery supply. The custom smart camera has a 5-megapixel sensor and embedded digital signal processing. Mounted over the sensor on an OEM board camera, the focus module improves image quality and efficiency in applications such as biometric imaging, machine vision and medical diagnostic systems.
