National Instruments has announced that its Vision Acquisition software now supports Gigabit Ethernet cameras, enabling engineers to acquire images from thousands of cameras and to move easily among IEEE-1394a, IEEE-1394b, Camera Link and analog interfaces. Using the software and GigE vision cameras, images can be acquired at greater than 100 MB/s over standard Gigabit Ethernet while using only a fraction of a computer’s CPU, leaving power available for complex machine vision algorithms. The software allows engineers to speak to GigE vision cameras and TCP/IP network devices via the same port and to use the port for acquiring images as well as for general-purpose Web applications, all without switching drivers.
