Avago Technologies has released the ACPL-P34x and ACPL-W34x gate drive optocouplers, which deliver high performance from a compact package. They are based on process technology that enables higher output current drive with rail-to-rail capability, providing high-voltage insulation and robust protection for industrial drive, inverter and power supply applications. They are available in a stretched SO6 package that is 40% to 50% smaller than the industry-standard dual-inline package. The bipolar transistors used for the output stage to deliver high output current have been replaced with bipolar CMOS/DMOS (double-diffused metal oxide semiconductor) technology that combines the high component density and low power consumption of CMOS with the high current drive and speed of the bipolar process. The switching speed is twice as fast as that of previous generation devices.
