NEWARK, Del., May 11, 2011 — For fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy applications, B&W Tek Inc. has announced its new Glacier X miniature fiber-coupled spectrometers.

The company says that they are the smallest thermoelectrically cooled spectrometers on the market and suitable for low-light-level applications. Proprietary thermoelectric cooling technology allows the signal to be integrated for sufficient time to accumulate measurable signals for detection, without being saturated with dark noise. The result is a good signal-to-noise ratio.
Two new preconfigured models of the Glacier X are in stock and ready for immediate delivery. For fluorescence, the spectrometer is configured with a 100-μm slit, a 350- to 1050-nm-wavelength range and a cylindrical lens that boosts sensitivity by three times. The model preconfigured for Raman spectroscopy is designed for use with a 785-nm excitation source, has a wavelength range of 3215 cm-1 from the Rayleigh line and a resolution of ~10 cm-1.
