STIRLING, N.J., Jan. 24, 2011 — For reliable use in data communication links, Fiberguide Industries Inc. is offering its AGI series graded index silica core/silica clad optical fibers, available with gold, polyimide and aluminum coatings.
They offer the high bandwidth of single-mode fibers with the convenient termination of step-index multimode types. The result is a fiber with good bandwidth that can be used with lower cost LEDs, making it a popular choice for medium-distance data communication links such as local area networks (LANs).
Premium coatings provide reliable performance in extreme temperature conditions: polyimide (-190 to 350 ºC), aluminum (-269 to 400 ºC) and gold (-269 to 700 ºC). Fibers are also available in a variety of sizes to fit customer applications. The AGI Series 50/125 is available with core diameters from 50 ±3 µm and clad diameters from 125 ±1 to 3 µm. The 62.5/125 models have core diameters from 62.5 ±3 µm and clad diameters from 125 ±1 to 3 µm.
The fibers operate optimally with low modal dispersion at 850 and 1300 nm. Features include relatively high source-to-fiber coupling efficiency, low loss, and low sensitivity to micro- and macrobending.
Applications, in addition to LANs, include shipboard, fiber-distributed data interfaces, 850-nm vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers, CCTV systems and industrial data communications.
