Fibercore has announced two new models in its telecom polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber range. The fibers are variants of the HB980T and HB1250T and are suitable for applications including PM pigtails on pump lasers for erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, Raman amplifiers and Lyot depolarizers; at the 1310-nm wavelengths, applications include fiber lasers, current sensors and biomedical technologies such as OCT.

In comparison to the standard PM fiber models, the newly released models maximize the fundamental benefit of the bow-tie structure to deliver a 40% increase in birefringence, the company says. This efficiency translates to a shorter beat length (Lp) and enhanced polarization extinction ratios.
