HBA4 Bore Shaft Encoder

US Digital Corp. has released the HBA4 absolute blind hollow bore shaft encoder. This single-turn encoder provides 16-bit resolution over 360° of shaft rotation.

It is available in a 12.7-mm-diameter bore size with either a ball bearing or sleeve bushing bearing assembly and is sealed to an IP65 rating. The rotary encoder slips over a shaft and is locked in place with a self-centering ring clamp.

A flexible antirotation tether provides single-point mounting for bolt circles ranging from 63.5 up to 127 mm in diameter and compensates for shaft run out up to ± 0.254 mm. The hollow bore with tether mount provides run out compliance. The encoder operates over a temperature range from -25 to 85 °C and communicates serially to a host via the industry-standard RS-485 bus.

It is designed for solar tracking systems and is commonly used as an Azimuth position sensor in two-axis tracking systems.
