MAIDENHEAD, England, Aug. 17, 2010 — The HT7700 120-kV transmission electron microscope from Hitachi High-Technologies Corp. features 100% integration of all functions into the graphical user interface. Optimized for high-contrast imaging at low electron doses, it is designed for biomedical research and research and development for pharmaceutical, advanced materials, nanotechnology and soft carbon-based materials.

The microscope features a high-sensitivity real-time digital CCD camera that enables all operations to be performed through the graphical user interface, including setup, alignment, image adjustment and image acquisition. Practical operation is performed on a console separate from the electron column, similar to scanning electron microscopy, reducing the installation space required and making the instrument easier and more intuitive to use by ensuring that all functions are available in one location.

The company says that the integrated real-time camera provides higher sensitivity than a traditional fluorescent screen, so live high-contrast imaging is performed easily in a fully lit room, and traditionally challenging low-contrast specimens can be easily observed. Beam-sensitive specimens can be more easily observed than with previous generation instruments which required higher illumination levels. LCD screen observation enables simplified operation and observation in normal room light. The standard high-sensitivity real-time camera can also be supplemented with a choice of higher resolution CCDs that are also fully integrated into the HT7700 user interface.

Enhanced digital imaging capabilities include the company’s EMIP-SP electron microscope image integration software for image archiving, classification and video acquisition, as well as fully integrated optional dual-axis auto-tilt series acquisition and optional EMIP-3D three-dimensional reconstruction software.

The turbo molecular pumping system is part of the eco-friendly design. It ensures a clean vacuum environment and low contamination rates and results in low power consumption.

Standard functions include image shift/stage shift and video recording.
