SAN JOSE, Calif., March 16, 2011 — BaySpec Inc. has released the Xantus handheld 1064-nm Raman analyzer.

Designed to accommodate difficult-to-measure real-world samples and to reduce fluorescence interference, it features ultrahigh throughput, no moving parts and ruggedized performance in a compact form factor weighing <5 lb.

It is suitable for such applications as counterfeit drug detection, process automation technology, petrochemical facilities, pharmaceuticals, food processing, agricultural feed monitoring, wine and beer, cosmetics and medical diagnostics.

Features include fast data acquisition with flexible sample identification library development, an ultracompact package, and an operating temperature range from -20 to 40 °C. It can operate in >85% relative humidity environments and can be customized with various fiber optic probes.

Two models are available. The Xantus-0 measures 93 × 195 × 59 mm, delivers output power of >80 mW and spectral resolution of 15 to 17 cm-1, and has an uncooled CCD detector and a typical dynamic range of 2000:1.

The Xantus-1 measures 125 × 233 × 85 mm, delivers output power up to 500 mW and spectral resolution of 10 to 12 cm-1, and has a thermoelectrically cooled CCD detector and a typical dynamic range of 3000:1.

Both models reduce stray light by 0.05% and have 1024 pixels, integration time of 20 ms to 300 s, readout speed of 250 kHz, 16-bit digitized output and maximum quantum efficiency of >90%.
