For installation and maintenance of today’s optical networks, Anritsu Co. has introduced the MT9090A Network Master micro-optical time-domain reflectometer (μOTDR). It provides the high performance, ease of use and portability required by field personnel responsible for the installation and maintenance of optical fibers. The compact handheld device features 5-cm resolution for accurate mapping of events. With less than 1-m dead zones, it can conduct fast and accurate evaluations of central offices, FTTx cables and intrabuilding cables. In addition to traditional premise/access applications, it expands the areas in which handheld OTDRs can be used. Featuring a dynamic range of 37 dB, it provides great detail and high resolution when measuring metro links, and it conducts a complete evaluation of long-haul fibers up to 175 km.
