High-Operating-Temperature DBRsPhotodigm, Inc. now offers High-Operating-Temperature DBR laser diodes with a set point temperature ranging from 50°C to 60°C. The H.O.T. DBRs provide equal performance and precision with a significant reduction in total system power by eliminating the need to “cool” the laser. Applications for these H.O.T. DBR lasers include spectroscopy, low noise pumping, LiDAR, atom optics, and quantum information sources. The Photodigm family of high-power edge-emitting Distributed Bragg Reflector (DBR) laser diodes have proven themselves over the years to be ideally suited for applications requiring high-power single-frequency performance within a well-defined operating range. Optimized for stability, reliability, and power, these devices have opened up opportunities for an emerging class of cost-effective precision mobile instruments for applications in spectroscopy, atomic physics, non-linear optics, low noise pumping, LIDAR, and quantum information.

Using their expertise in DBR laser design and fabrication, Photodigm is further enabling these applications by introducing a series High-Operating-Temperature DBR laser diodes with a set point temperature ranging from 50°C to 60°C. Referred to as H.O.T. (high operating temperature), this series of DBR lasers provide equal performance and precision as the Photodigm DBR lasers. Operating at temperatures higher than most ambient environments, cooling the DBR laser to maintain the desired wavelength is no longer required. Heating the DBR to its desired wavelength eliminates the need for a thermoelectric cooler (TEC), reducing the overall system power budget, reducing temperature control complexity, reducing system cost, and allowing for further miniaturization. Because the H.O.T. DBRs are based on the same fundamental Photodigm DBR structure, the can be configured in any of the currently available packaging schemes. Miniaturization and portability, especially where battery life is important without having to sacrifice on wavelength precision and stability, is now even easier.
