High-Resolution 1550-nm Converter for CCD Cameras Edmund Industrial Optics now carries a 1550-nm converter that extends CCD cameras into the near-IR. This converter is ideal for beam profiling, imaging or alignment applications where working in the near-IR is crucial, such as the telecom industry. This unit has high resolution, low distortion and excellent uniformity throughout the image.

The high-resolution 1550-nm converter attaches to a CCD camera with a typical visible spectral response. When attached, a proprietary phosphor converts the 1495- to 1595-nm light entering the converter to typical silicon-based CCD-detectable wavelengths with minimal lag. The phosphor coating on the converter's outer window lends itself to easy visualization of any 1550-nm beam.

The converter is designed for 1/2-in. CCD cameras, and its small size (46 mm in diameter by 97 mm long) makes it ideal for tight-space applications. It allows for ~1% distortion across the entire field, with a maximum resolution of 12 line pairs per millimeter over the active area. It can be combined with Edmund's 1550-nm camera, making it an ideal replacement for expensive InGaAs and vidicon-based cameras.
