SAN DIEGO, Feb. 2, 2012 — Photron USA Inc. has launched the Fastcam IS-1M, an ultrahigh-speed, high-resolution camera system. The 312 × 260-pixel-resolution in situ image storage CCD sensor captures a wide range of ultrahigh-speed phenomena at a rate of up to 1 million fps.
The key feature of the camera is the sensor, where the signal storage areas for the recorded images are incorporated within the chip. Highly light-sensitive, the camera captures a variety of high-speed events, even in low-light conditions. When two or more cameras are used, the 10-bit monochrome camera allows synchronous recording, which supports phenomenological analysis from a variety of angles.
The camera also offers a 100-frames buffer, flexible triggering and high spatial resolution.
Applications include ink-jet printing/droplet measurements and other fluid dynamics, hypervelocity impact observation and testing, materials failure, electric discharge, combustion evaluation and product faultfinding. For added flexibility, the camera features a Nikon F-mount lens. The imaging system includes intuitive camera control and image download software via the USB 2.0 interface. Recorded images can be saved as an AVI video or as jpeg, tiff or AVI image sequences.
