High-Resolution Optical Encoder

MEDFORD, Mass., Feb. 8, 2013 — For closed-loop applications, Nanotec Electronic US Inc. has launched the high-resolution NOE2 optical encoder.
It produces a resolution up to 4000 cycles per revolutions, despite its small size of 31 × 37 × 11.5 mm. Mechanical resolution is down to 0.225° using quadratic evaluation. This corresponds to a resolution of 80 increments per step for a stepper motor with a 1.8° step angle — four to eight times the resolution achieved with conventional incremental encoders.
The commutation angle in field-oriented controlled operation can be measured with high accuracy for good synchronization even at low speeds.
The three-channel encoder is supplied with a line driver. Besides the 5-V standard version, there is a 24-V model available for use in mechanical engineering.
