Sony Electronics Inc. has announced the XCD-V50 black-and-white and the XCD-V50CR color cameras, both featuring IEEE-1394.b-compliant interfaces to allow cable runs of up to 100 m and daisy-chaining of multiple cameras on a single cable. They have a 1/3-in. progressive-scan CCD with 648 × 494 square pixel resolution. They measure 44 × 29 × 57.5 mm and offer a choice of 8- or 14-bit output. Frame rates of up to 60 fps are supported in 8-bit mode. The cameras can connect to computers through standard interface cards and are backward-compatible with 1394.a technology.
