ITASCA, Ill., Dec. 20, 2012 — The IL Series ultralong-range analog laser sensor unveiled by Keyence Corp. of America represents an advancement in laser displacement technology. The measurement range of the compact triangulation-based laser sensor is 3.5 m, with 100-µm repeatability, regardless of target color. An easy-to-use interface offers a simple approach to measuring height, thickness, liquid fill level, roll diameter, part positioning, width, distance and hot metal part sensing.
The control system includes numerous built-in, application-specific operation modes, including thickness and step height, enabling most installations to be configured and operational within seconds after powering up.
The die cast steel sensor head (IP 67) withstands almost any environment. It weighs 2.1 oz., making it suitable for robotic applications when used with the company’s torsion-rated cable.
The sensor has a dedicated mode that completes calibration in three steps. Also included is a height difference filter function that automatically recognizes abrupt changes in step height and delivers a one-shot output for each step. For stability, the system uses an ambient light elimination function to counteract light interference from overhead lights.
NPN and PNP outputs are supported, and five types of analog outputs can be selected. For quick product changeover, four patterns of tolerance values can be set. Panel mount and DIN-rail mount models are available, and communication choices include analog, RS-232 and Ethernet/IP.
