IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 8, 2011 — Newport Corp. has announced its stand-alone IMS-LM-SA series long-travel linear motor stages. Based on a stiff body design, the self-supporting stages are available in 800-, 1000- and 1200-mm travel. Cost-effective and robust, they do not require ultraflat mounting surfaces, making them suitable for research and light industrial tasks.
The stages are suited for high-precision, light-to-medium industrial applications that carry up to 10-kg loads, including semiconductor wafer inspection, microelectronics test and assembly, pick and place, DNA sequencing, laser machining, bio-printing and tissue engineering.
Features include industrial-grade direct-drive linear motors, direct-read linear encoders, recirculating ball bearings and an aluminum base. The stages use a four-point mounting method, ensuring stability even when mounted on less than ideal surfaces. When mounted on a proprietary table, the sturdy stage design ensures accuracy, high throughput and repeatable, bidirectional performance.
The stages are compatible with the company’s XPS controller, which will automatically recognize the connected stage and upload the operating parameters for a quick, safe start.
