IR-Grade Fused Silica Optics
Esco OpticsRequest Info
OAK RIDGE, N.J., Oct. 19, 2018 — Esco Optics Inc. has added IR-grade fused silica lenses and windows to its catalog of stock optical components.
Manufactured using low OH Corning 7979-grade fused silica, these optics allow for exceptional transmission up to 3 μm. Combined with a low coefficient of thermal expansion, superior homogeneity, and low birefringence, Corning 7979 is an ideal alternative to significantly more expensive IR materials. Fused silica is made by melting highly pure silica through a flame hydrolysis process where it oxidizes and forms an amorphous structure.
Applications of interest include process control and inspection using machine vision, high-resolution SWIR imaging, remote sensing, and metrology. This product line includes a selection of planoconvex lenses from 0.5 to 3 in. in diameter, as well as windows ranging from 0.5 to 4.0 in. in diameter and 1.0 to 3.5 sq. in.
