CHESHAM, England, March 6, 2019 — The IR endoscope from Resolve Optics Ltd. enables the safe monitoring of glass vitrification within a radioactive waste processing plant through a thermal camera.
Processing plants require a method of monitoring the temperature of waste material to ensure no excessive build-up of heat. With the level of radiation around the vitrification process unsafe for operators and likely to rapidly destroy the thermal camera, a remote measurement solution was sought.
Operating from 7 to 14 μm, the prime function of the IR endoscope is to provide the desired field-of-view to monitor the vitrification cell and to transfer the image to the bolometer-based thermal camera. For added safety, the thermal camera was mounted after a 90° fold to ensure clearance of radiation.
