An infrared imaging system from Flir Systems Inc. uses an InSb focal plane array detector for thermal sensitivity in the 3- to 5-µm range. The company says medium- and narrow-field-of-view optics on the Star Safire II work with the imager to improve range performance for increased stand-off distances and system accuracy. The gyro-control electronics help reduce vibration of the camera lens to increase the line-of-sight stability, and the gimbal control systems are designed to stabilize the infrared payload.
