IR LEDs for Iris, Facial ScanningOsram Opto Semiconductors GmbH has announced new IR LEDs for iris scanning and facial recognition as part of its Oslux line for access control, enabling use on mobile devices.

The Oslux SFH 4787S IR LED enables the iris to be illuminated more uniformly. Iris scanners illuminate the eyes with IR light and a camera takes a picture. Special software then analyzes the picture to detect the iris pattern, which is unique to each individual.

The Oslux SFH 4796S IR LED has an emission angle that matches the field of view required by facial recognition systems. It identifies features accurately and reliably with high-quality images. The face is illuminated brightly and evenly, without shadows, in a wide variety of lighting conditions.
