BERLIN, Feb. 11, 2011 — For use in medical engineering applications, Optris GmbH has introduced a compact infrared thermometer, the CSmed LT.

It has applications in small medical devices and products due to its length of 87 mm and an inside width of only 12 mm. It features a short connection cable with a cable plug that enables easy and fast installation and removal of the thermometer within medical devices, such as for regular calibrations of the sensor.

Other applications include original equipment manufacturer solutions and infrared monitoring of a multitude of measuring points such as midget machinery for plastic products, for monitoring gradation for analysis of medical specimens or for temperature control in cryoengineering.

Measurement temperature range is from -40 to 1030 °C. It also can be used in environments of up to 80 °C without additional cooling because of its high temperature resistance. Optical resolution is 15:1, and response time is 25 ms. The thermometer includes a USB programming interface and an intelligent green LED display for alarm indication, aiming support, self-diagnosis or temperature code indication.

Spectral range is from 8 to 14 µm. The thermometer operates from a 5- to 30-VDC supply and weighs 58 g.
