WELWYN GARDEN CITY, England, Oct. 14, 2010 — Hamamatsu Photonics UK Ltd. has introduced the ImagEM 1K C9100-14 EM (electron-multiplying) CCD camera that offers high-resolution, high-sensitivity and high-speed imaging. Because of its back-thinned 1024 × 1024 frame transfer EMCCD with peak quantum efficiency of >90%, it is suitable for use in applications where ordinary CCDs or scientific CMOS cameras are not.
It can be operated as either an EMCCD or as a standard CCD camera. In both modes there are multiple settings available that have been optimized for different applications and for readout speeds of up to 11 MHz. This versatility makes it well suited to use in research laboratories and for fluorescence microscopy, semiconductor and solar cell inspection, and pharmaceutical drug discovery.
The camera provides accurate and repeatable 16-bit data acquisition at up to 242 fps. With 1 million pixels measuring 13 µm, it is possible to capture signals with a high dynamic range, and electron-multiplying gain of up to 1200 ensures that even the weakest signals will be visible.
Features include short exposure times, stabilized dual-mode (air/water) cooling, stabilized gain, minimal dark noise and a hermetic vacuum-sealed head. The single window has antireflection coatings on both sides. The Camera Link camera has a C-mount lens and operates from 0 to 40 °C.
