WATERLOO, Canada, Sept. 14, 2016 — Image DetectorsTeledyne Dalsa Inc. has announced three high-resolution image detectors for outer space applications.

The PolyCam collects telescopic images during mission approach and high-resolution images once in formation. The MapCam collects color imagery and searches for satellites around the asteroid. The SamCam is dedicated to deliver context imagery during the Touch-and-Go sample collection.

Serving as “retinas” for the University of Arizona’s OSIRIS-REx mission to Bennu, the image sensors behave in a manner similar to human eyes, spotting target asteroids from more than a million miles away and monitoring sampling processes close to the surface of the asteroid. Space-qualified and radiation-hardened, the CCD detectors feature very low dark signal with a low read out noise for all three cameras.
