SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 3, 2016 — Image SensorOmniVision Technologies Inc. has announced the OV2744 PureCel image sensor, enabling advanced biometric capabilities such as facial recognition for front-facing cameras in notebooks, tablets and smartphones.

The 1.4-μm, 1/6-in. sensor features RGB-IR technology that outputs 10-bit RAW images, allowing OEMs to move to single camera solutions, reducing cost and space requirements.

The device captures HD 1080-p video at 60 fps while consuming less power than any other 1080-p sensor currently on the market. It supports full-frame, staggered high dynamic range and features an ultralow-power mode, reducing resolution and frame rates to conserve additional power.
