Applied Analytics Inc. has launched its in-line method for determining the presence of impurities in 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene, which is used in the production of rubber and polymers for electronic and optical applications, and as a scent carrier in the fragrance industry. Through photodiode array spectroscopy, the wavelength range from 190 to 800 nm can be monitored with a resolution of 1 nm to obtain the spectrum of a sample. The company says that the spectrum can be collected in 10 s, allowing rapid detection of impurities by monitoring the absorbance at 320 nm and an internal reference at 343 nm.
