Industrial Femtosecond Laser
MKS Spectra-PhysicsRequest Info
Optimized for micromachining of transparent, brittle materials, a new industrial femtosecond laser from Spectra-Physics Inc. (a Newport company) may be used in display manufacturing.
Spirit ClearShape (Spirit CS) uses the company's patent-pending ClearShape laser process for cutting curvilinear and closed shapes in chemically strengthened glass, unstrengthened glass and sapphire.
The process requires an average output power of <4 W. At cutting speeds up to several meters per second, it yields <0.1-μm edge roughness and as-cut bending strength up to 700 MPa for chemically strengthened glass.
Spirit CS delivers >40 μJ pulse energy at 100 or 200 kHz. The laser is fully computer-controlled and allows for system integration.
