PROVIDENCE, R.I., Sept. 14, 2012 — Custom-fabricated infrared and broadband optics that match the material and surface characteristics required for specific applications are available from Meller Optics Inc.
They can be fabricated to specification from the optimum material to meet application requirements, based upon wavelength and environmental factors, including λ/4 and λ/10 wave surfaces and 10-5 scratch-dig finishes. In planoconvex, concave and meniscus configurations, sizes can range from ¼- to 6-in. outer diameters or diagonal with tolerances to ±0.005 in. and thickness to ±0.002 in., depending upon the material.
Conforming to MIL-PRF-13830, the optics can be made from sapphire and spinel for demanding environments; from germanium for detector and sensor applications; from zinc selenide and sulfide for lasers, medical instruments and forward-looking infrared; from calcium and magnesium fluoride for nonhygroscopic front surface applications; and from silicon for mirrors and reflectors. A variety of antireflection, partial and total reflective coatings are available.
