DUNEDIN, Fla., Dec. 13, 2010 — Now available for Ocean Optics Inc.’s Jaz modular sensing system, Jaz Scripting Language (Jaz-SPL) software enables users to customize spectrometer data acquisition, processing and export functions. It increases the power of the Jaz modular spectrometer and enables do-it-yourself scripting for a variety of applications.

Jaz is a family of stackable components that share common electronics and communications. Included in the stack is a CCD-array spectrometer that can be optimized for a variety of measurements, and a microprocessor with display. With Jaz-SPL, the power of its onboard microprocessor can be harnessed with scripts for simple data acquisition, processing and export of results to a secure digital (SD) card.

An Ethernet-equipped Jaz can be remotely controlled by a PC, or the Jaz can run the script from an SD card with no need for a PC. As a reference point for starting new scripts, sample scripts and a programming language reference manual are included with the software.

The modular design of the Jaz family, with user-selected grating and slit options optimized for a variety of applications, allows it to be customized for use in the field, laboratory or process environments. With the new software, users can further tailor measurements to their requirements, without any special programming knowledge.
