Newport Corp. says that, compared with other available devices, its new diode laser current driver circuit offers lower noise, higher stability, an expanded dynamic range, improved electrical efficiency and the capacity for working with lasers over a wider resistance range. Innovative features include a voltage regulator that powers the current regulator, circuitry to equalize the voltage drop across the circuit elements, and the placement of each on separate heat sinks. Splitting the power dissipation between two heat sinks reduces the required thermal mass at each.
