Blue Sky Research has released a compact version of its EPM980 laser pump module for erbium-doped fiber amplifiers. The company says the module's footprint is 50% smaller than its predecessor, allowing OEMs greater flexibility. Designed for direct replacement of circuit-board-mounted butterfly packages, the EPM980 includes a 980-nm laser diode and a microlens optic in a hermetically sealed TO housing. It is available with output powers of 50 to 120 mW and does not require a thermoelectric cooler.
