LASER SENSOR Balluff Inc. has introduced the BOD 63M long-range time-of-flight laser sensor for detecting and measuring stationary or moving objects as small as 1 mm and up to 6 m long, or up to that distance away. Applications include pallets, hot steel, parts that change color or that have reflective surfaces, and targets that move at angles that are unfavorable to a light beam. The system can measure large objects such as logs, rolls of steel and paper, as well as hopper levels and material handled in automated warehouses and transelevators. It works by bouncing a Class 2 laser beam off objects and measuring the time it takes the beam to reflect to the sensor.
