BRIDGEWATER, N.J., March 7, 2011 — Hamamatsu Corp. has added the LC-L5 (L11403 series) to its Lightningcure series of linear irradiation-type UV spot light sources.

The LC-L5 irradiates a linear area with monochromatic UV light at 365 or 385 ±5 nm. Two irradiation area sizes, 105 × 10 mm and 305 × 10 mm, are available. It produces intense UV irradiation, and LC-L5 models with 1000 mW/cm² or 1200 mW/cm² intensity are available.

Because the light source is based on LED technology, it offers advantages over other types of UV spot light sources. Compared with bulkier UV types built with lamps, it is compact and lightweight for easy installation into tight spaces along a production line. It also has a service life of 20,000 h, unlike lamps, which have a shorter lifetime and must be replaced. It has low power consumption and minimal heat emission.

DC input voltage is 36 ±2 V, cooling is via forced air by fan motor, and operating ambient temperature is from 5 to 40 °C. The air cooling eliminates the need for bulky chiller equipment, and the minimal heat emission means that no exhaust ducts are required.

Applications include UV ink drying (inkjet printers, seal and label printing, offset equipment); UV coating agent drying (printed circuit board protective films, integrated circuit cards and tag coatings, Blu-ray and DVD media coatings, furniture and building materials, woodworking applications); UV tape peeling; UV gluing; fluorescence excitation lighting; scratch inspection lighting; and flaw inspection lighting.
