CoolLED.jpgCoolLED’s precisExcite is a self-contained light source that uses LED array modules (LAMs) for fluorescence excitation. The company has added two modules, one at 445 nm for cyan fluorescent protein and one at 505 nm for yellow fluorescent protein, to the 400-, 465-, 525-, 595- and 635-nm wavelengths already available. The user can select the wavelength and control the intensity and period of excitation. LAMs can be changed easily, and the modulator will recognize a different LAM fitted into the unit, automatically adjusting controls to the one installed. According to the company, the additional wavelengths make the system more flexible and useful for fluorescence microscopists and cell biologists.
