LIGHT SOURCE Model UWS-1000, an ultrawideband light source manufactured by Santec Corp., generates supercontinuum light with an optical spectrum from 1200 to 2000 nm. Spectral power density is more than 230 dBm/nm, and the company says that spectral emission is flatter than that produced by conventional EDFA-based amplified spontaneous emission light sources or LEDs. It is suitable for rapid evaluation of optical components in coarse WDM and passive optical network systems, and for spectroscopy and remote sensing.
