LIQUID LENS IMAGING SYSTEM
Corning Varioptic LensesRequest Info
Rogers Corp. and Varioptic SA have collaborated to produce a miniature liquid lens optical imaging system for handsets. Comprising Varioptic’s autofocus liquid lens and Rogers’ Durel LL3 driver, it contains no moving parts and provides accurate focus from a short distance. Based on the electrowetting principle, the lens uses two isodensity liquids, one an insulator and the other a conductor. Varying the voltage alters the curvature of the liquid-liquid interface, changing the focal length of the lens. Rogers’ output device drives the liquid lens at up to 60 V rms into a capacitive load of 500 pF, maximum. The system operates at 40 mW focusing at 5 cm and at 20 mW focusing at infinity. Standby current is 1 μA.
