Xenon Corp.'s new sapphire linear lamps feature deeper-UV output, higher power densities and longer lamp life than traditional quartz envelope lamps. The company uses a manufacturing process that bonds sapphire to metal and prevents cracking from increasing temperature levels. The lamps transmit from 140 to 7800 nm, and the company says they offer improved heat transfer and operate at higher power levels for longer periods of time. Sapphire's high melting temperature of 2050 °C shortens the process and curing times, and also allows higher lamp operating temperatures and higher power levels of lamp loading. The lamp can be used for ultraviolet curing, semiconductor processing pulsed-light sterilization and hazardous waste treatment.
