A process for manufacturing 48-in. light lines has been developed by Fiberoptics Technology Inc. The fibers are aligned and nested in a linear array to ensure parallel fiber placement, resulting in concentrated output in a uniform pattern. When more than one input is required on a line, all of the light is distributed over its length. The fibers are suitable for automated inspection in large-scale web scanning applications.
