AUBURN, Mass., May 29, 2013 — Physik Instrumente (PI) has introduced the LPS-24 series of miniaturized, piezo-motor-driven linear positioners for applications in precision optics, life sciences, medical design, biotechnology and nanotechnology.
The positioners are less than 1 in. wide and provide 15-mm travel range with closed-loop sensor resolution up to 2 nm. Their small dimensions make the positioners suitable for high-precision motion in confined spaces. A vacuum-rated version is also available.
The positioners are equipped with a piezo-walk motor providing thrust of 5 N (1 lb) and offer a choice of two linear encoders. The proprietary high-resolution piezoelectric linear motor drive offers several operating modes: long distance, high-dynamics nanostepping (<1-nm resolution) and constant-velocity mode. The self-clamping motor design provides long-term power-off position-hold capabilities without the need for a brake.
With the patented PIone linear encoder, resolution of 2 nm is standard, and a 0.5-nm version is available on request. A 150-nm resolution sensor is also available for lower precision requirements.
