SPARTANBURG, S.C., Jan. 15, 2013 — Developed and manufactured by AFL in conjunction with Fujikura Japan, the LZM-100 LazerMaster is a glass-processing and -splicing system that uses a CO2 laser heat source to perform splicing, adiabatic tapering and other glass-shaping operations. Diameter capabilities are up to 2.3 mm, and long tapering capabilities are up to 150 mm.
It uses proprietary and patent-pending closed-loop power stabilization techniques, resulting in power stability within 0.5% and enabling repeatable processes and smooth taper profiles. The carbon dioxide heat source ensures repeatable performance and eliminates electrode/filament maintenance and instability. The clean, deposit-free fiber surface and consistent results make the LZM-100 suitable for use in the medical, military/defense and industrial markets.
High-precision glass processing is enabled by onboard firmware. Operations can be performed automatically, manually or by PC control. Proprietary software is supplied.
