The GTAT Advanced Materials Group (AMG) is providing the World’s largest sized C-plane, non-birefringent, sapphire crystals for optical applications. Recent technology advancements have increased the C-plane HEM Sapphire sizes available to 12” diameter round configurations, 20” by 9” rectangular configurations and 10” by 10” square configurations with no restrictions on window thickness. Polarization affects can now be avoided on large format sapphire windows. These crystals are ideally suited for precision optical applications in the 1/20th wave transmitted wave front regime. The absorption properties of these crystals have been tested using photothermal common path interferometry and typical results have < 50 ppm @1064 nm.  

GTAT large non birefringent HEM sapphireThe combination of HEM sapphire’s strength, superior optical properties and low absorption makes Non-Birefringent HEM Sapphire an ideal candidate for HEL (High Energy Laser) windows and other critical optical applications. The Advanced Material Group’s crystals are grown and fabricated in the USA. The production facilities, located in Salem, Massachusetts, are equipped with 5-axis machining capabilities, precision grinders and dimensional and crystallographic test equipment. The combination of superior HEM sapphire crystals and high quality optical fabrication techniques lead to superior sapphire optics.
