WOBURN, Mass., May 8, 2008 -- Energetiq Technology Inc. said its new EQ-1000 LDLS (laser-driven light source) is a deep ultraviolet-visible (DUV-VIS) light source that achieves extreme high brightness and power over a broad spectral range, from 170 nm through through visible and beyond. The company introduced the product this week at the 2008 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO).

The EQ-1000 LDLS is the first in a series of user-friendly, compact light products that can be used in a variety of applications, the company said. The EQ-1000 can be configured for broad spectrum output in spectroscopy, optics testing, biological imaging, and general scientific research. In addition, the user can, through using the standard optical output interface, select narrow bands of light for specific applications.

EQ1000LDLS.jpgA single EQ-1000 LDLS covers wavelengths from 170 nm to beyond visible, while attaining exceptional bright light and power at levels that exceed those of deuterium lamps and at a fraction of the cost of excimer or other DUV lasers, Energetiq said. The fully integrated EQ-1000, which incorporates light collection optics and power supply, provides broadband spectral optical output from a flexible optical interface, giving customers a cost-effective alternative to purchasing and operating multiple lamps or lasers.

The LDLS technology uses a continuous-wave laser to directly heat a Xenon plasma to the high temperatures necessary for efficient DUV production. In traditional approaches such as arc and deuterium lamps, the brightness, UV power, and lamp lifetime are limited by the use of electrodes to couple power to the plasma. However, electrodeless LDLS technology creates a small, high brightness plasma that allows efficient light collection and broad spectral range from the deepest UV bands through visible and beyond. The proprietary laser-driven bulb technology is optimized for superior brightness and long operating life, Energetiq said.
