Laser-Power Sensor

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 9, 2013 — Coherent Inc.’s PowerMax USB Wand is a “meterless,” ultraslim laser-power sensor configured to enable measurements at points deep within instruments such as flow cytometers and multiphoton excitation microscopes, and between closely spaced components.
The UV-VIS sensor consists of a 10-mm-diameter silicon detector mounted on the end of a 6-in.-long wand that is 0.2 in. thick at its end. It can measure the average power of lasers in the 325- to 900-nm spectral range and can sense powers from 100 µW to 300 mW. Its meter electronics are contained within its own USB connector; the only additional equipment required to perform measurements is a PC equipped with PowerMax software that provides wavelength calibration adjustment and a full range of statistical and data logging capabilities.
Designed to overcome drift problems often experienced with silicon detectors operating in the UV, it delivers high stability measurements throughout its spectral range and has an absolute calibration uncertainty of ±2%.
Optional accessories are available, including an adapter to which an FC connector terminated fiber can be attached, a barrel that automatically positions the sensor relative to the collimators used on the company’s Cube series lasers, and a post mounting clamp.
