PORTLAND, Ore., April 27, 2015 — Electro Scientific Industries Inc. (ESI) has announced the NWRimage laser ablation system, giving researchers a new tool to investigate elemental binding and transport within cells.

Used in conjunction with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry systems, laser ablation systems are used to detect and analyze small amounts of material. NWRimage uses a proprietary laser beam delivery system to yield submicron spatial resolution, providing subcellular feature distinction.

An aerosol path is provided from the point of ablation to injection into the plasma itself, yielding a <50-ms signal response to accelerate the speed of analysis and enable enhanced sample throughput.
