CLAMIR - Laser Control for LMD & CladdingCLAMIR is the first commercial system based in high-speed infrared imaging that performs an accurate real-time control of the laser power during LMD DED metal printing and cladding processes to assure the quality of the part under production and increase the production throughput. CLAMIR performs a continuous monitoring of the melt pool geometry and dynamics and as a result drives the laser power control unit to allow an uninterrupted manufacturing process, preventing the overheating of the processed part. CLAMIR has a monitoring mode as well which measures the melt pool size and triggers a digital alarm if the value is above or below the threshold values configured by the user.

CLAMIR is an embedded solution which includes the high-speed uncooled MWIR camera (1 – 5 microns), the processing electronics, and the control electronics. Its compact size makes it suitable for direct integration into the production equipment. The system is very straightforward to configure, easy and quick to set-up and is installed in an available optical port using a C-mount mechanical interface to allow on-axis observation of the melt pool during the complete process.

CLAMIR can be combined with other vision technologies by using an external dichroic mirror. The laser power used in the process is calculated at a rate of 1 kHz and is controlled using a standard 0 – 10 VDC analog signal. Due to the robustness of the embedded MWIR infrared camera, CLAMIR has multiple advantages compared to other vision technologies such as CMOS sensors, and to solutions based in pyrometry. CLAMIR is compatible with multiple laser optics, many different powder types (steel, Inconel, aluminium, titanium, etc), substrates (steel, copper, etc), and continuous / track operation modes. CLAMIR is an affordable solution that fulfils the requirements of the Industry 4.0 and brings the user closer to a “zero defect” manufacturing.
