MONMOUTH JUNCTION, N.J., Aug. 14, 2012 — Akela Laser Corp. has released laser diode modules based on its long-wavelength laser diodes from 1030 to 1950 nm. The entry-level modules are designed for 200- and 400-μm, 0.22-numerical aperture fibers, and deliver up to 20 W of continuous-wave power.
The high-efficiency modules operate at low drive currents and are not subject to catastrophic failure. Offering a built-in thermistor and an SMA output so that a customer can use the fiber brand of his/her choice and replace the fibers at will, the modules help lower overall system costs by enabling the use of less expensive drive electronics, power supplies and cooling methods.
