RMI Laser LLC has released the U-20, a 20-W diode-pumped solid-state Q-switched laser marking system for high-volume throughput. It can be used on all metals, most plastics, composites, ceramics and a wide variety of other material substrates and is suitable for use with large batches when the marking areas range from 101.6 to 304.8 mm. It features a built-in diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser source that provides peak power from 120 to 200 kW, while maintaining good beam quality. It performs fast engraving from 0.03 to 0.10 mm and vector marking at very high speeds, making it suitable for marking on the fly. Because of the short pulse duration (<10 ns), the heat level is at a minimum during operation, making the laser marking system suitable for heat-sensitive materials or processes.
